LA CROSSE, Wis. -

You might be seeing fruits and vegetables pop up more often around the community.

The La Crosse County Health Department kicked off its Harvest of the Month program Tuesday.

The idea is to feature a fruit and vegetable every month at a number of areas in the community. Local restaurants, schools, and farmer's markets are just a few of the places that will promote the healthy food.

It's an expansion of the county's Farm-to-School and Foot Steps to Health programs which already get the fruits and veggies in schools and promote healthy eating.

A county nutrition manager says the success of those programs has created a growing demand for healthy options. "I think sometimes people don't realize how good fruits and vegetables can taste, and we want to make that possible," said Linda Lee.

Mayo Clinic Health System, Kwik Trip, and Trane Co. are partnering with the county.

Some foods you may be able to expect in the next few months include cabbage, potatoes, and dried beans.
