Area high school students learn leadership & ethics at Responsibility Retreat

Every high school student learns math and science, but lessons in leadership and ethics are harder to come by.

That's why nearly 200 high school juniors from 10 area schools got together at the La Crosse Center Tuesday morning for a "Responsibility Retreat."

It was an opportunity to talk to fellow students about respect, being a role model, and taking care of their schools.

Many of the students never met each other before the event, which means they're hearing different ideas from a variety of perspectives. "It's good to get to know other people and see what people have to say outside of your school and what kind of ideas they have as far as respect and treating other people nicely," said Central High School junior Morgan Klaeser.

Organizers say the event is all juniors because next year they will be the ultimate leaders in their schools.
