The De Soto School District is asking voters to approve a referendum in the upcoming spring election.
School officials held an informational meeting Monday afternoon. State Senator Jennifer Shilling was among those in attendance.
The nearly five million dollar referendum would be used to remodel parts of the middle and high school building.
The project would include a secure entrance, a centralized library with new technology, and new physical education spaces.
It's part of a larger project the school has already started. "This is something that our school district has been planning for for a long time and it would complete a long-term project that our school board unanimously supported because they've planned for it and it's, they consider it a dire need," said Superintendent Jim Kuchta.
The referendum will appear on the April 2nd ballot.
