MADISON, Wis. -

A La Crosse man was sentenced Wednesday to 63 months in federal prison for possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

On August 27, 2012, Tang Vue, 26, pleaded guilty to the charge. Vue was arrested on December 8, 2011. The Wisconsin Department of Justice said on that day at 2:30 a.m., an officer saw a man walking down the street wearing a black backpack. As the officer approached the man, later identified as Vue, he ran away and was seen getting into a taxi and leaving the area.

Police stopped the taxi, asked Vue to step out of the vehicle. During a pat-down search, officers removed a .22 caliber pistol with a fully loaded magazine from Vue’s pocket. Immediately after officers retrieved the gun, Vue fled the scene on foot and was later arrested by other officers.

Officers also recovered two backpacks from the back of the taxi. Inside one of the backpacks, officers found approximately 80 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of MDMA (ecstasy), cocaine, marijuana, 29 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, hundreds of empty zip-lock baggies commonly used to package drugs, and a digital scale.
