LA CROSSE, Wis. -

A Logan High School senior will show off his skills in biomedical engineering when he competes at a national competition next month.

Colin Kenow recently took first place at the regional junior sciences and humanities symposium.

For his project, Colin designed and built a prosthetic hand that can be controlled using muscles in the neck.

He says he did most of the work in his basement, often times during homework breaks. He says there were many trips to the store in the process.

Colin says he's excited for the national competition, but also a little nervous. "It's nerve-wracking, um, I don't know, I think it will be really cool to see what other people are doing around the country and we'll just see how it goes," said Kenow.

Colin says he received a $2,000 scholarship and will compete at the national symposium in Dayton, Ohio the first week of May.
