MAUSTON, Wis. (AP) -- Rescuers used a rowboat to reach a pilot whose plane crashed in a swamp in Juneau County of central Wisconsin.
Sheriff Brent Oleson says the pilot, 29-year-old Seth Pripps, of Rockford, Ill., called the county's communications center around 12:45 p.m. Monday to say he was not injured, but couldn't get out of the single-engine Cessna because of the water level. The Wonewoc Fire Department rescued Pripps with a small rowboat.
The pilot told authorities he was flying from Park Falls in northern Wisconsin to St. Louis., Mo. He said he landed at Wonewoc to check the plane, then developed engine trouble right after takeoff, causing him to crash into the swamp.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
