ONALASKA, Wis. -

Onalaska's community thanksgiving dinner is quite a bit younger than La Crosse's, but if turnout for today's second annual dinner is a sign, it'll be here for a long time.

Volunteers served-up more than 750 traditional turkey dinners at the Onalaska Armory.

The event is made possible through donations and the work of volunteers.

Officials tell News 8 so many people wanted to volunteer,  some of them had to be turned away.

It's evidence of our community's generosity and all the more reason to celebrate.

"We have so much to give thanks for in this community, " said Tom Brewer of the Onalaska Enhancement Foundation. "This is just a great opportunity for neighbors to get together and the entire community to get together to see some people they know and to meet some new people, and celebrate Thanksgiving together."

Brewer said the dessert table was especially popular today, thanks to the donated pies.

He also said Onalaska's Community Dinner will be back next year.
