LA CROSSE, Wis. -- A mock car crash gave Native American students the chance to get a closer look at the health care industry.

The crash was part of a four-day health careers camp in La Crosse where the students also got CPR training, diabetes education and a hospital tour.

The camp comes at the end of a year-long partnership between local health departments and Native American tribes from Wisconsin and South Dakota.

The goal is to instill the value of education beyond high school for the students. "Hopefully we've given them the tools to understand that they can be successful in college and that there are resources there to help you and health care is a great industry to go into," said Martha McCabe from Scenic Rivers AHEC.

The camp is a first of its kind partnership in western Wisconsin.
