U. Iowa graduate student killed in police shooting
A county sheriff says a 28-year-old University of Iowa graduate student was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire with police that left three officers injured.
Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said Taleb Hussein Yousef Salameh was killed Sunday evening after North Liberty police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at his mobile home.
Pulkrabek says officers made contact with Salameh and a female victim, and "gunshots were exchanged between officers and Salameh," who was killed at the scene.
Pulkrabek says three officers were struck by gunfire, and were transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment. All three have been treated and released. The female victim was not harmed.
A classmate confirmed that Salameh was a graduate research assistant in mechanical engineering.
