MILWAUKEE (AP) -

The University of Wisconsin, Madison, is one of six institutions to share in a $14.5 million grant for cancer research.

The money is from St. Baldrick's Foundation. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the research will focus on two areas: genomics and immunotherapeutics.

Genomics involves looking at DNA for genetic causes of cancer. Immunotherapeutics involves developing treatments that use the body's own immune system to fight the disease.

The six institutions will analyze childhood cancer genomes and normal tissues to look for susceptible molecules on cancer cells. From there, new immunotherapeutic drugs will be developed.

Promising drugs will be tested on mice before they are used on children. The project starts in July.
