Assistance grant to help small businesses

Small businesses looking to grow can get a bit of a financial boost.

La Crosse County created a grant program offering up to $10,000 to small businesses that want to expand or diversify.

To get the money, businesses are required to work with a local non-profit economic development company. The County hopes the program will bring jobs and new products to our area.

Duratech and Interior System International have already received grant money. La Crosse County is the first in the state to offer a grant of this kind.

Officials believe now is the time to encourage expansion following the 2008 economic crash.

"We decided to try to do it locally, and really just try to prove that this program can be successful and can really help businesses to hopefully weather storms a little better," says Brian Fukuda, Community Development Specialist for La Crosse County.

There's no deadline to apply for the grant. The county will review how well it's working in a year or two.
