LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

Seven short months after graduating from Aquinas, Bronson Koenig returned Friday as one of the Badgers' bright young stars.

"It's pretty surreal, I guess. It doesn't really feel like I'm playing on the fourth-ranked team in the nation. I just try not to really think about that and just get better every day," he said.

Head Coach Bo Ryan gave his 16-0 team a well-deserved break before traveling to Indiana Tuesday. The Badgers will go for the first 17-0 start in program history.

"I think we just gotta keep doing what we have been doing since June. Because we've been going since June now, so that's quite a while. Just keep working hard everyday and not let that ranking get to our heads and everything and just keep working hard."

Koenig is one of the first players off Bo Ryan's bench. He's averaging almost 17 minutes and four points a game.

"It's really exciting because not a lot of freshmen get to play, especially for Coach Ryan and everything. I'm just grateful for the opportunity that I get."

Koenig said he's handled the transition to college well since he left Aquinas seven months ago, both on and off the court.

"School was definitely a big transition but I got adjusted to that pretty well and I did well in school. Basketball-wise would probably just be the intensity everyday in practice. It's pretty much like a game every single day in practice and just have to go 100 percent all the time. And the game, just the speed of the game, everyone's a lot bigger, more athletic, more physical, but I feel like I've adjusted to it pretty well."

Tip-off is 6 p.m. Tuesday in Bloomington.
