TOMAH, WI -

The Tomah community has the opportunity to make sure kids in need stay warm this winter.

The Parenting Place is teaming up with Lighthouse Assembly of God church to hold a Coats for Kids drive.

For the next three weeks, residents will be able to drop off winter items at a number of places in and around Tomah. They are looking for things like coats, boots, hats, and scarfs for kid and their parents.

Last year, more than 2,400 items were given away to people in need. "It's amazing to see the kids come in and all excited to pick out their own coat, or their boots, and then just matching them up, it's so nice to see the smiles that the children have and then the parents leaving going, 'ok good, check that off my list,'" said Julee Katona from the Parenting Place.

The collection runs through October 14th. The clothing will be distributed October 18th from 4-6 p.m. and the 19th from 10-Noon at Lighthouse Assembly of God on Highway 16 in Tomah.

All of the items are free and will be given away on a first come, first served basis.
