The Pumphouse has released the names of the winners of Saturday's Chalk Art Festival in La Crosse.
Ellen McDonah's drawing of a white cat with green eyes won first place and a $75 cash prize.
Second place went to James Dunkley with the ship's anchor. He completed his artwork with the help of his four-year-old son Alex. Third place went to Christine Hlvacka for a colorful ocean life drawing.
Artists paid an entrance fee and then chose a block of pavement to transform.
People voted for the artork they liked best.
Event organizer Nicole Prigam said it's a neat way for the community to show off its talent.
"I think it's important for the community just to bring creative minds together. We don't really have a chalk art festival event downtown," Prigam said. "I know we do the downtown days but it's not just one gathering of artists and obviously the Pumphouse is one of La Crosse's main art places and I thought this was the perfect place to have it, in our courtyard."
The event was sponsored using grant money from the La Crosse Arts Board. Prigam said they hope to make it an annual tradition.
