Madeline Edman
LA CROSSE, WI (WKBT) -

La Crosse's only active missing person case might not actually be a case of a missing person at all.

Madeline Edman was reported missing more than eight years ago, on July 29, 2005, when she was just 15.

Tuesday. the National Center for Missing Children released a digitally-enhanced photo showing what Madeline would look like now, at age 23.

The case is the La Crosse Police Department’s only active one, and officers say they have no new leads. But Madeline’s family says she's not missing at all.

"Her sister's friends and other people I know have seen her, like at Wal-Mart or at the doctor's office, and they told me that they seen her,” said Madeline’s grandmother, Maureen Edman.

She added Madeline had a troubled childhood, and if she really is in the area, she likely wants nothing to do with her family.

Police say they haven't received any information about Madeline's whereabouts in several years.

"The early part of the investigation, we're talking several year ago, was the last updated info we had that she may still be in the area,” said Sgt. Randy Rank. “For the last several years, we have not received that information."

Despite a rocky relationship with her granddaughter, Maureen said she misses her every day.

"When you do something special that she used to do, you miss her,” she said.

“I wish she'd come home."

Maureen said she doesn't know exactly where Madeline might be living now, though she thinks it's in the area. Madeline's mother Kathy died several years ago, and her father now lives in Kenosha.

Madeline Edman is described as both hispanic and white.

Police say whether she's still in the area or not, the family and investigators, who have been waiting for more than 8 years, still want closure.

Maureen is described as both Hispanic and white, and she has one blue eye and one green eye. She also has a scar on her left leg and several tattoos. If you have any information on her whereabouts, you can call the La Crosse police at 608-785-5962 or the National Center for Missing Children at 1-800-843-5678.
