The man convicted of strangling a La Crosse woman last year is asking for a new trial.
Attorneys for Izalia Golatt filed a motion for a new trial last week. Golatt was found guilty of killing Kristen Tabbert Rodgers in March of 2012.
His lawyers say the jury deliberated and reached a verdict while the county courthouse was closed and that violated Golatt's constitutional right to a public trial.
But Judge Scott Horne says the court was open and the public was allowed inside. Golatt's lawyers have one week to verify those facts.
