LA CROSSE, Wis. -

Dogs and their owners will be able to run around more comfortably at a local dog park.

A grant from the Iowa-based Nutro Company is funding a new water station at Houska Park.

Right now, the water station is essentially a kids wading pool.

The three-year-old park is one of seven nation-wide winners and should help with the need of the community.

"We didn't have a very large dog park for years, we had the Dr. Fred Park, which was extremely tiny and way over used for the size of the facility, and we're trying to make improvements and trying to catch up to the 21st century," said Park and Rec Supervisor Gar Amunson.

The water station will be installed as soon as possible. Also, the city is expanding the dog park 5 acres on the north end.
