LA CROSSE, WI -

No one was injured in a fire at Trane Company's technology building 11, at 2213 S. 20th Street in La Crosse Wednesday morning.

The call came at about 6:45 a.m. Trane Company says all of their employees were safely evacuated and there was no disruption to the factory.

The assistant fire chief with the La Crosse Fire Department says the fire was in the roof of the building, and crews had to cut several holes in the roof to keep up with the fire.

Employees stood outside the building as firefighters used a ladder to attack the fire from above. Black smoke billowed from the building. The fire was out by about 11:35 a.m.

Trane Company does not know how much damage the fire caused. About 30 people were in the lab at the time of the fire. All employees were sent home for the day.

The La Crosse Fire Department provided clearance for Trane employees to re-enter all parts of the building except for the contained area where the fire happened.

"The safety of our employees remains our top priority," said Melinda Rowland, spokesperson for Trane Company. "We thank the first responders from Trane and the La Crosse fire department for their prompt response. We also request that all employees return to work tomorrow unless otherwise notified by their managers."

Crews from the La Crosse Police Department, La Crosse County Emergency Managerment, Tri-State Ambulance, Xcel Energy, Salvation Army, Onalaska Fire Department, Shelby Fire Department and the Stoddard Fire Department helped the La Crosse Fire Department deal with the fire.
