La Crosse School Dist. gaining students through open enrollment

LA CROSSE, Wis. -

More parents are choosing to send their students to the La Crosse School district.

Open enrollment ended Tuesday in Wisconsin. That's an option for parents to apply to send their children to a school outside of the district they live in.

In La Crosse, about 100 students more are applying to come into the district than those leaving. That means the district will get more money from the state to support their programs.

And the biggest impact can be seen in the pre-school program. "That's because of the convenience, it's not a full day program, so the ability to couple school with daycare is really popular and a lot of parents take advantage of that because it's one less transition for the family during the day," said Janet Rosseter from the district.

Rosseter says about 900 students move between La Crosse, Onalaska, Holmen, and West Salem.
