Man charged in Farnam Street shooting

The man who police say shot three people on Farnam Street in La Crosse on August 31 has been charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide.

Shooting suspect Almondo Baker, 33, was arrested in Lee County, Florida, on Monday, September 23.

Baker gave the wrong name to authorities when he was arrested in Florida, according to online court records.  Baker remains in the Lee County jail without bond.Witnesses told police there were about 8-10 people outside the residence on 1020 Farnam Street on the sidewalk when an argument grew and a fight started around 5:05 a.m.

A witness told police she heard several gunshots and people ran from the area. Several people told police Baker fired the gun. When La Crosse police arrived they found a woman was shot in her right thigh, the criminal complaint states.

Police later talked with a man in the emergency room who was shot in the left lower leg and in the pelvic area. The man told police Baker grabbed his sister from the back and he told Baker to keep his hands off his sister. The man who was shot said it was only a verbal exchange between him and Baker, the criminal complaint states. He began running and noticed he was shot in the stomach.

Another woman was also shot in the right thigh.

Police say another woman got a call from Baker who said he was sorry and that he looks at her like family and did not mean to do it and was just stepping up for her daughters. Baker did not mention a shooting or shooting anybody.

Baker gave the wrong name to authorities when he was arrested in Florida, according to online court records. Baker remains in the Lee County jail without bond.
