La Crosse summer school students volunteer with MVC
Going to school probably isn't how most kids like to spend their summer vacation, but some area students are spending their time in an outdoor classroom.
Students from the La Crosse School District were on top of Miller bluff Wednesday helping to preserve the local prairie.
As part of a community service project, students spent the day cutting down invasive species threatening to take over that area.
And the project was more than just a field trip, the students were also learning about the outdoors. "To provide students an opportunity, one to get community service hours in, two to kind of disconnect from their electronics and reconnect to nature and learn about their natural landscape," said Kathy Frise with MVC.
The Mississippi Valley Conservancy hosts groups like this all summer long.
