Wisconsin lawmakers are considering a bill that would require seat belts on school buses.
The bill would require all new buses purchased to have lap and shoulder belts, and would require kids to wear them while on the bus.
The lawmaker that introduced the bill said if we require seat belts for cars, we should for buses as well.
The Holmen school district says you can't compare the two because buses are designed differently than cars, but the issue is worth looking into. "We're just happy that legislators are as vigilant about student safety as we are everyday and so we're happy that they are studying this to see if changes are needed," said Holmen Schools Asst. Administrator Jay Clark.
Six other states currently require seat belts on school buses. None are in the Midwest.
