American Academy of Pediatrics releases new recommendation for screen time

A majority of kids are spending nearly eight hours a day in front of a screen and the doctors behind a recent study want it cut down.

The American Academy of Pediatrics updated its decade old recommendation to better reflect the huge increase of social media use.

They recommend limiting recreational screen time to two hours and less if possible on school days.

The study advises parents to set mealtime and bedtime curfews for media devices and to keep the devices out of children's bedrooms. "It's saying that the overuse of this technology, especially when it's unregulated and unsupervised by parents can cause serious problems with kids. We think technology is good, in the right place with the right amount of time," said Gundersen Child and Family Therapist Jeff Reiland.

The study recommends children under two have no screen time.
