NTSB releases preliminary report on Caledonia fatal plane crash

CALEDONIA, MN (WKBT) -

There are new details about the plane crash near the Houston County Airport that killed three people and left one seriously injured.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released its preliminary report and says there were no distress calls from the pilot the afternoon of the crash on November 1.

Killed in the crash were 79-year-old Joel Alan Garret of Troy, Michigan, 49-year-old Dale Edward Garrett of Berkley, Michigan, and 50-year-old John Parl Bergeron of  Birmingham, Michigan.

The report says Piper PA-23- 250 plane was coming from Michigan and crashed into a soybean field about 590 feet northeast of the runway.

The report says the scars in the field show the right wing hit first, followed by the right engine and fuselage.

There were no reported witnesses to the crash. It was discovered by a local resident.

The NTSB has not released any further information about the cause of the crash.
