MILWAUKEE (AP) -

A Marquette University law school poll released Tuesday says three-fourths of Wisconsin residents support a tuition freeze at the University of Wisconsin.

Gov. Scott Walker and state lawmakers have called on regents to freeze tuition following reports that the University of Wisconsin System has hundreds of millions of dollars in reserves. University officials said earlier this month they expect to have $1.2 billion in reserve by the end of June.

Seventy-six percent of respondents support a tuition freeze, while 21 percent oppose one.

The poll also asked about $181 million in increased funding for UW that Walker included in his budget plan.

Forty-four percent favor reducing that, while 50 percent oppose reducing it.

The poll questioned 717 respondents. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
