LA CROSSE, Wis. -

The Rotary Club of La Crosse launched the third edition of "The Brain Game," a free resource for new parents that highlights activities and milestones that are critical to positive early childhood development.

The book is collaboration between Gundersen Health System and Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare.

Every new parent who visits an obstetrician or pediatrician at either of the healthcare providers receives the book, which has been updated to reflect current early childhood development standards and recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The Rotarians collaborated with early childhood development experts at Gundersen Health System and Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare to create the parent resource.

"We developed the idea for the book when Nan Brien of the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families shared research indicating that parental involvement during the first three years of a child's life is key to brain development," Rotarian and president of "The Brain Game" Board of Directors Chuck Hanson said in a statement.

Since "The Brain Game" was first printed in 2001, more than 85,000 copies have been distributed in 32 states and three countries.
