Monroe County Jail

Raymond Towne

SPARTA, Wis. -

Sparta police arrested a 22-year-old man, who was wanted on several warrants, after he threatened police with a shotgun on Friday night.

Raymond Towne, of Sparta, was standing outside his garage, 1981 River Road, with the gun waiting for police to come and arrest him, police said.

When police arrived, they heard the sound of a shotgun action being cycled and then saw Towne inside the garage. Officers had been at the home earlier in the day looking for him.

Sparta police say after several minutes of negotiating with Towne, he left the garage without the shotgun. Towne was arrested for endangering safety with the use of a dangerous weapon, bail jumping and resisting an officer.

Traffic in the area was diverted for about 45 minutes while officers resolved the situation.
