A new study shows kid's vitamins might not be the healthiest choice for your child.
The study found most supplements exceed the recommended amount of vitamins. In one case, the average vitamin-C level in supplements was about five times the recommended dosage for older children.
Experts say there's virtually no regulation in vitamin contents, which can result in those high dosages. They suggest getting those nutrients from foods instead of relying on a pill.
"It's a little bit trickier with a child, sometimes they don't want to eat the most nutritious of foods - however getting a variety of different colors into our diet, getting enough protein, grains, fruits and vegetables is our number one,” said Dietitian Valerie Pampuch of Gundersen Health Systems.
Dieticians also suggest sticking with name-brand vitamins over other options.
