Two local companies are offering to buy the County Administrative Building and turn it into student housing.
360-Real Estate and Borton Construction would repurpose the building into housing for Western Technical College.
For years, the county has been looking into what to do with the aging building that is in need of repairs. The biggest issue is asbestos removal which would cost the county millions.
They decided to start accepting ideas from the public and say 360 and Borton seem like a great fit. "I really think the process we've used is a good one because we really wanted to kind of cast the net out there and see if anyone in the community had a better idea for the use of this building, if they do, and we like it and the neighbors agree, then we have to find a new home," said County Board Chair Tara Johnson.
Right now, the idea is just a proposal. Developers will present their plan to a county committee that will then present it to the County Board in July.
