Wis. shoemaker Allen Edmonds now selling clothes
Allen Edmonds Shoe Corp. has long been known for its handmade high-end shoes for men, but the company based in Port Washington has begun selling a new line of men's clothing and leather goods.
A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report says the products will be available online and at some of the company's retail outlets.
Most of the clothing is made in the U.S., and it doesn't come cheap. A wool sportcoat is $495, som dress shirts are $115 and a pair of socks can cost $22.
The company says the cost reflects the garments' high quality and Allen Edmonds' exacting manufacturing standards. The company is contracting with manufactures for the actual production.
Company officials say the move is in response to customers who hoped Allen Edmonds could provide apparel on par with its high-quality shoes.
